LMP Introduces Students to Medicine Through New Summer Camp

This past summer, Lake Mary Preparatory School launched its first Mini Medics Summer Camp, giving young elementary students a chance to step into the exciting world of medicine. The camp was led by Ms. Bonnie Brewer, LMP’s Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Athletic Director, along with Senior Jocelyn Karakoosh, who both brought energy, expertise, and passion to the program.

Throughout the camp, students explored various medical fields and gained hands-on experience with the human body. They learned how the heart works to pump blood, how the lungs and diaphragm work together to help us breathe, and how our joints function to support movement. The interactive lessons kept students engaged while sparking curiosity about how the body works.

The program also introduced participants to essential medical skills. Students practiced CPR techniques, along with splinting, taping, and even suturing. These exercises not only helped them understand the basics of healthcare but also gave them confidence and excitement about learning practical skills.

Beyond the lessons, the week was filled with discovery, teamwork, and plenty of fun. Watching elementary students dive into medical concepts with enthusiasm was a reminder of how curiosity can inspire future passions.

Mini Medics was part of LMP’s robust summer camp programming. Each year, the school hosts a variety of weekly themed camps that encourage creativity, exploration, and fun. In addition, LMP faculty lead a number of specialty camps—like this one—that allow students to dive deeper into unique subjects taught by experts within the LMP community.

With its successful launch, the Mini Medics Summer Camp is already building momentum to become a meaningful tradition at LMP—encouraging students to dream big, learn boldly, and explore the paths that could one day lead them into healthcare careers.
